Description
In a flash of white, White-Fronted Terns in Port Chalmers, New Zealand maneuvered through the air in dazzling acrobatics before plunging into the harbor to catch a meal.
These seabirds are the most common tern of New Zealand, where they breed in colonies of hundreds on the nation's rocky cliffs and offshore islands. Unlike their Arctic cousins, White-Fronted Terns stay close to home on New Zealand and the east coast of Australia.
