Description
The Margarita Local makes the trip from Salinas, California, south as needed to deliver freight or pick up empty railcars along the Union Pacific Coast Line.
The short train serves a pallet supplier in Salinas, fertilizer plants in Camphora and San Lucas, and a lumber yard in Paso Robles. Depending on which of those industries need deliveries, or where the empty cars wait, it may make the trip all the way to Paso Robles or only go part of the way.
Although called the Margarita Local, it hasn't gone all the way to the town of Santa Margarita, California, in several years. The farthest south the train travels is Templeton, fourteen miles shy of it's namesake town. Here, the crew moves the locomotives to the opposite end for the trip back north.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS!
