This small flower was on the path to the volcano at Parque Nacional Volcan Poas (Poas Volcano National Park) in Costa Rica.
Monochaetum Vulcanicum is a common shrub that is frequently encountered in the mountains of central and southern Costa Rica.
Poas Volcano National Park is Costa Rica's most visited national park. It covers 16,000 acres in the Alajuela Province, 40 miles north of San Jose, Costa Rica. The park was created in January of 1971. The Poas Volcano is one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes with frequent small geyser and lava eruptions, but the last major eruptions were from 1952-1954. Its highest point is 8,885 feet and the main crater is 950 feet deep.
