Description
One of nearly a dozen Great Egrets that were visiting Atascadero Lake in mid December, 2017. Now common, Great Egrets populations in North America were decimated around the end of the 19th century for their plumes, which were popularly used in decorating hats.
The Great Egret can be identified by its orange beak and black feet, but to find out if this one is male or female would require a peek under its skirt.
