Description
Somebody at the museum gets a great idea for a new exhibit. Skulls! Hundreds of them. But how to display them?
420 sea lion skulls could have easily been stored in boxes and drawers in the back rooms of the museum, with one or two samples displayed in glass cases in the bone or pinniped exhibit. But at the California Academy of Sciences, they're displayed as an enormous wave, almost 100 feet long. After a few months as part of the “Skulls” exhibit, they were moved high on a wall as a permanent installation.
The display was built in collaboration with Cinnabar, a design and and fabrication company, as part of the Academy's “Skulls” exhibit. Cinebar specializes in museum and cultural institution exhibits. In addition to its four projects with the California Academy of Sciences has also worked designing and building exhibits for the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, Gallaudet University, and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, among others.
