Description
Stepping quietly through the shallow marsh, this snowy egret is looking for a meal.
Eyes scanning the water, she takes a few steps and stops. Her leg begins to vibrate, startling a fish from it's hiding place in the reeds. She strikes and is rewarded with a tasty morsel. Another step and the process repeats. It's quite an interesting thing to watch a snowy egret hunt for food, and the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex in the San Joaquin Valley is one of the premier places to do so.
On a visit to the Merced National Wildlife Refuge, one of three refuges in the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex, you're virtually guaranteed to see these beautiful birds wading in the shallow wetlands throughout the year.
